Slideshare allows users to share presentations in various formats. As a teacher, you and your students can use it to locate presentations to use as raw material for literacy in your classroom or use slideshare to share class presentations from and with your students and the world.
Last we we looked at Slideshare (http://www.slideshare.net )...think of it as a Youtube for powerpoint...individuals can upload, share and search for presentations...
It's pretty simple...on the site you can search for presentations that others have shared...if there is a download button (most have this) then the users who put the presentation on the site have agreed to allow others to download and modify for your use...
Application ideas:
1. You can place your class teaching presentations to the site and then, using the embed code, you can place them in a viewable mode on a class wiki or blog, allowing students to view at home or elsewhere...it'll handle PowerPoint as well as .PDF and .doc formats...
2. Looking for presentations / ideas for a topic...search for presentations others have done, download them and modify for your use...think of it as raw material for your presentations...
3. Send students there for research / raw material for their presentations...they can download and use graphics, etc for their use...remember to have them credit sources..a great opportunity to teach about Creative Commons (session upcoming on Feb 16).
While you can access, upload and download content without creating an account, you will want to create an account if you plan to upload presentations. This will allow you to manage your files as Slideshare will keep all your presentations in one place...
